Retirement immigration visas will typically take the form of a stamp in your passport or sometimes the visa will be an official document that demonstrates the individual’s right to reside and immigration status.

There are certain prerequisites that must be satisfied before a retirement immigration visa can be obtained by an individual. Some of these requirements include but are not limited to:

- Individual must be 55 years of age or over

- Individual must have official retiree status

- Individual is required to hold a valid passport

- Some countries specify that the individual must have a minimum level of income coming into the individual’s bank account on a monthly basis

- Individual must demonstrate they have sufficient funds to cover their living expenses in that country

- Dependant on the country you seek a retirement immigration visa in, the country may request a monetary investment into a project in the interest of the local economy

- In certain circumstances an individual seeking a retirement visa can purchase real estate and this will count as the monetary investment

- Most countries will request that the individual shows a medical certificate stating good health
