Citizenship has many different meanings depending on the country the citizenship is party to. Generally, citizenship is defined as the relationship between both state and individual whereby the individual commits to the state and the state in return offers the individual protection.

Citizenship explained
Citizenship provides a citizen of a particular country with a host of rights and advantages, including but not limited to;
- Political rights including the right to vote
- The right to hold public office
- Legal protection
- Travel benefits
- Medical care (dependant on country)
- The right to hold federal jobs (dependant on country)
Citizenship is typically complex to achieve and involved the individual residing in the country to a specified period of time and satisfying a range of citizenship requirements. Citizenship requirements can be; capital adequacy, passing a citizenship test, employment record, intention of goodwill, payment of taxes, military service, attending a citizenship ceremony, and a range of other necessary obligations.
One of the most highly sought after citizenship status’s is that of EU citizenship. This particular form of citizenship entitles the individual to citizenship benefits in all EU member states including the right to move freely between member states, the right to reside and the right to seek employment within the EU.
