Green card lottery eligibility
Obtaining a green card is considered a relatively stressful, time consuming and competitive process to go through and as such the green card lottery provides a welcomed alternative to obtaining a green card. The green card lottery is also known as the Diversity Immigrant Visa program and provides 55,000 green cards each year that are given out on a random selection basis. Who is eligible for the green card lottery
Individuals from regions that have low USA immigration rates are favored more than other regions across the globe. The green card lottery works on a regional basis where there are 6 main regions and countries may not obtain more than 7% of the total amount of lottery green cards available in any one year.
If you are from an ineligible country you cannot apply for the green card lottery. Ineligible countries are countries that have sent over 50,000 immigrants to the USA over a 5 year period.
Eligible applicants for the green card lottery must have completed their high school education however applicants can apply who have not completed high school but have a minimum of 2 years work experience in the past 5 years.
The green card lottery is open to individuals to apply even if they are currently residing in the USA under another immigration status i.e. temporary residency permit, or business visa.
Applicants for the green card lottery must be 18 years of age or older due to the requirements of completing high school education. There are no minimum capital of financial standing requirements nor are there and requirements with regards to speaking English. However you cannot be a criminal, unable to work, suffering from mental health issues or be a threat to the USA in any way.
