Uses of a transportation letter

A transportation letter is a necessary document that you must seek from your nearest US embassy if you loose your green card while traveling outside theUSA. If your green card is stolen you will still need to apply for the transportation letter.

A transportation letter authorizes the individual to be transported back to theUSAwithout penalty from not carrying their green card. Generally the transportation letter will authorize the person to fly back theUSdepending on where they were located when their green card went missing.

A transportation letter is valid for a period of one month from when the applicant receives it. To apply for a transportation letter the individual must complete and send off form I-90. The individual must also show their valid passport and produce evidence of their most recent department date from theUSi.e. boarding pass.

An individual may also be requested to produce official evidence that they have LPR status; this could be in the form of a photocopy of their green card. It is always advised to have a copy of your green card for emergencies.

In applying for the transportation letter, you will need to show your police report of the missing green card, together with a detailed analysis of what happened to the card. A fee plus 3 passport photos will also be expected from you.
