In general if you engage in an economic citizenship program you will be required to invest a substantial amount of money into the economy such as a new business start up to create new jobs, or an environmental project. However many countries also offer the opportunity to invest in an existing company that requires assistance.
The requirements for these types of investment opportunities are primarily financial standing. You will be required to have a net worth of a particular amount while also having the funds to invest into the relevant project. You will be required in the case of investing in a business start up or existing company to have entrepreneurial and general business experience to ensure you are capable of investing and setting up a business entity.
Many countries require the investor to have a certain level of language proficiency, which can be assessed in the form of a language test.
Another requirement is for the investor to be of good health and to demonstrate this with a medical certificate. Some countries offering economic citizenship programs will also request a police certificate to show the investor has no criminal record or will pose no harm to the country they seek citizenship in.
Bank statements and letters of reference from the bank and the applicants previous employers may also be requested depending on the type of economic citizenship program.
