What is a work permit

A work permit is usually required by individuals who are seeking employment in a different country than their country of domicile. Each country has their own set of regulations that an individual must follow in order to obtain a work permit.

Work permits explained

Individuals that wish to work overseas are required to obtain a work permit and present it to their potential employer. When trying to obtain a work permit, there are several requirements that need to be fulfilled including relevant documentation, application form and proof of identity.

In the case that an individual seeks full time employment, it is likely that the government of the jurisdiction will require documents detailing terms of employment and employer information. It is helpful for an individual to already has a prospective job in their select country as this will facilitate the work permit application process more efficiently.

In most countries, minors under the age of 18 are also required to present a work permit. This is to control the number of minors working as well as monitor their school attendance. For example, in the State of California, minors aged between 12-17 years old require a work permit that is issued by their school.
