Passport updating explained
It is important to update your passport in the event that your personal details change; these changes include any alternation to the following:
- Name – through marriage or civil partnership
- Nationality status – for example from British subject to British citizen
- Gender – even if your name does not change, the gender specified on your passport needs to be updated
- Appearance – in the event that an individual’s appearance changes drastically and they are not identifiable through their passport photograph.
These are the main categories that require updating in your passport as the rest of the information is standardized, such as place of birth and date of birth. To change any of the above listed details on your passport, individuals are required to contact the relevant authority and follow the procedure outlined by them.
