UK Ancestry Entry Clearance
The UK Ancestry Entry Clearance, often referred to as the Ancestry Visa, is a type of entry clearance that any commonwealth citizen is provided with if one of their grandparents in born in the United Kingdom. A UK Ancestry Visa explained
Individuals that have a grandparent that was born in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man are eligible to apply for an Ancestry Visa. This visa enables individuals to enter the UK for work purposes and take advantages of the UK’s high standard of living and quality of life.
The other requirements that individuals wishing to acquire a UK Ancestry Visa must fulfill are detailed below, this list is not exhaustive;
- Have at least one grandparent who is born in the UK, Channel Islands or Isle of Man.
- Hold citizenship of a Commonwealth country.
- Must be of a minimum age of 17.
- Must be able to take on employment.
- Must have sufficient funds in their name in order to support them in the UK so that they are not a burden on public funds.
Once acquired, the Ancestry Visa enables individuals to have entry clearance into the UK for a maximum of five years. After this period of time, the visa holders are eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain (ILR), which has other criterion that need to be met.
Additionally, if the individual wishes to study in the UK, they are able to do so with a valid Ancestry Visa, however it is essential that they continue working throughout their education period as this is a requirement of the visa.
