A green card is officially known as the United Statespermanent resident card and is a green colored card that represents an individual’s immigration status within theUS. There are many requirements to satisfy in order to successfully obtain a green card and be a permanent US resident.

Feature of the United States green card
A green card was previously sought by filing application form USCIS Form I-551 to the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services (BCIS) which is an operational department of the DHS – Department of Homeland Security. Now green card applications are made to the USCIS.
A green card is representative of an individual’s (aliens) residency status within the US. The green card demonstrates to the relevant authorities that the holder of the green card is an LPR – Lawful Permanent Resident of theUSand has the right to reside and engage in employment in theUS.
It is a requirement that to obtain and maintain your green card status you must reside in theUnited Statespermanently and if certain requirements are not met your green card can be revoked from you. Conditions for revocation of a green card may include; not remaining in US for a certain period of time.
The USCIS – US Citizenship and Immigration Services are responsible for receiving and reviewing all green card applications. On approval of the green card application the USCIS will issue the card to the individual. It is a legal requirement that all permanent residents of the US must carry with them their green card at all times if they are ages 18 years or above.
