What constitutes a good professional reference?
A credible professional work reference should provide the reader with no doubt as to the capabilities, skills and attributes of the applicant in the reference. The reference should be a clear and constructive letter by which the relevant authoritative figure in the company personally claims the applicant has contributed positively to the growth and development of the company for the duration of his/her time with the company.
A good reference letter will include the following information;
- Name of company who is supplying the reference
- Name and position of person writing the reference
- The applicants job title and main responsibilities
- Relevant examples of how the applicant has been successful in his tasks during his time with the company
- A positive statement of the applicants’ character and work ethic
- It should then be signed, stamped and dated accordingly
Please note that this is only a general guideline of a professional reference letter and may differ depending on the company issuing the reference and the position the applicant held with the company. There may also be additional requirements needed by the relevant immigration authority with regards to your work history before you will qualify to apply for a residency or work visa.
